Annual Report : 2005-06

This has always been policy of the Institution that the work should be done on the basis of consensus and not on majority. This is the reason; today we are in a position to work with the people at village level. Lot of work has been done in previous years with women on bio-agriculture. This gives opportunity to the women to earn their livelihood. After launching a special campaign with women and youth last year, we generated faith in the people about advantage of bio-agriculture. We hope, will make ourselves able to work for more female farmers in future.

Work done under following project;

Family Help Programme (CCF India): In this year we focused on promotion of bio-agriculture and self help groups (SHGs) under the family help programme. Through SHGs 35 women were provided financial and other supports for goatry, bullock cart, grocery shops to enable them a good livelihood.

Likewise, the primary education programmes were organized at 31 villages through Gyan-Kendras. In this programme, Guruji, school teachers, parents, child-clubs were trained and provided exposure. And also books, musical instruments & sports items were provided to Library for physical and cultural development of children and to enrich their knowledge.

Others social activities, done in this annum are as follows;

Nineteen “daees” (country nurses) were trained for safe delivery and they were provided equipments.

Three Balbadi (crèches) were also run by our institution

Provided training and necessary materials to 13 Aganwadi (run by government) to conduct in a valuable way

In the participation of children from 34 villages, a cultural programme was organized at village Dhaba. Children performed inspirational programme based on primary education

Two-monthly newspaper ‘Dost’ has been published at local level by the enthusiastic efforts of children and Guruji

Under this project a well was dug at village Nirungi for potable water with estimated cost Rs. 68,000, comprising forty percent of the said amount was contributed by the local villagers and rest of the amount sanctioned by Panchayat fund

To promote promote bio-agriculture system, ‘Yuva Manthan Session’ for young boys and girls was organized at 38 villages in four phases, with likely participation of young/teenager boys and girls, by 56 persons in every programme

Civil Society Programme in most poverty stricken areas (with the help of PACS, DFID) : The programme run through Self Help Group is mainly for women with following objective;

To ensure active participation of women in Panchayati Raj.

To growth of resources of livelihood

To ensure women’s active participation in development of the villages through Self Help Groups and Federations

Under the said project, 17 training programmes were organized through Self Help Group’s first & second phase, in addition to regular series of meetings and mass contacts. In the training programmes, the potential of the Self Help Groups was discussed and special focus was made to generate more opportunities for better livelihood. Also separate practical training was provided on bio-agriculture system. Nearly 465 women participant were benefited in the trainings.

Likewise, under the said project other activities are;

Executive members of ‘Sathin’ Federation were visited in Betul Mela, Ojaswani Mela and Bhopal Hatt, so that women would know how their products are sold in market

Under “Solar Cooker” sources of livelihood programme, with the help of Barli Gramin Mahila Vikas Sansthan, Indore, training about “how to operate” the S-14 Solar cooker was given to 18 women in first phase of the training and also distributed cookers at subsidized rate to participant women. Now trained women not only prepare food on solar cooker for their own families but also prepare various items for breakfasts and sell it in open market through Self Help Groups and earn extra bucks. Similarly, in the second phase of the training, 20 women were distributed solar cookers. Cookers are made up of stainless steel and are semi-spherical fitted with discs

Bio-Agriculture
Training of bio-agriculture was given to women of villages Khapa and Dhayawani. Most of the women adopted the said technique for farming. The women also prepare catalyst and sell it with brand name “Gay-Shakti” and earned extra money. This catalyst is used for seeds treatment and to prepare the liquid manure, compost, tree pest. We have found the technical support of “SUPA technique” in said training programme.

Fortnightly magazine for women “Gappa Gosti” is publishing regularly, which mainly gives information about various government’s schemes and plans

TANA-BANA

With the help of CELI (Canadian Embassy) we have completed second phase of Project this year, in which our main targets were designing and marketing.

22 women visited various melas in Betul and Bhopal and enriched their knowledge

24 women got training about natural dye, block printing, Ambar Charkha

There was special contribution of Mr.Gopuri Wardha, professors of NID, Ahmedabad & IIT, Delhi and KVIC, Maharashtra in trainings. In fact, this is quite difficult job to provide training to the local women in the remote tribal areas

With the help of Barli Gramin Mahila Vikash Sansthan, Indore, two women were given six month training of block printings and then we started work of natural dye & block printing

In this project brochure, pamphlets, book mark, calendars and website were developed for the publicity of Tana Bana

In addition to this project, organization propagates various schemes of Government as Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Right to Information, BPL survey etc. through rallies, videos and pamphlets. For promotion of workers, they are sent for trainings and programmes. Time to time institutional programme are also organized to motivate the workers. Even eye camps are organized specially for women. Our main agenda is drinking water. Therefore, our main focus remains on the said issue. We ever take care and do repairing of hand pumps, old wells and exploring new sources of water.

However, in remote tribal areas, problems are more but sources are limited.
